Why GayPrideNet
We have received
this initial sponsorship, thus it has been decided to keep this
as a free service to associated members (anyone who associate
themselves with “Freedom of Association irrespective of Sexual
preference”). We also suggest a sub-section where homophobic
businesses that expressly wish to disassociate themselves from the
gay community can register their wish to do so, or where gay people
who have had unpleasant experiences with homophobic people or establishments,
can list these so that gay people take note of places to avoid.
We intend to keep this as
a free service and would rather utilize sponsorships from our community
to make this possible. |

Welcome
to GayPrideNet
During 2004 we have seen the introduction
in Durban and the province of KwaZulu-Natal of the Pink Guide,
highlighting gay and gay-friendly establishments in KwaZulu-Natal,
South Africa. We have also celebrated the Durban Gay Pride series
of events in 2003 and 2004. During this period various discussions
have taken place, to formalize an association of people who are
gay and or gay-friendly. While this process is still underway
Gay Pride has been offered a free website as a networking and
information facility for our gay and gay-friendly community and
businesses. Why this service? Durbanites might remember a recent
incident at a well-known restaurant where the manager told gay
patrons, “Gays are not welcome here”. To this restaurant’s
credit, the manager’s services were terminated with immediate
effect, but the question stands: need gay people reward homophobic
establishments with their patronage? The option’s ours.
